PillowCAUSES 2011
Pillowcase Tutorial

Fabric Requirements:
Base: ¾ yard
Top Band: 1/3 yard
Accent Strip: 1/8 yard
Cutting Instructions:
Base: 27” by 41”
Top Band: 10” by 41”
Accent Strip: 3” by 41”

1.  Cut the main body of the pillowcase to 27 inches.

2. Fold the main body of fabric in half and lay the fold along the bottom of the cutting mat. Cut at 20 ½ inches (this will cut the selvages off!)

3.  Cut the top border to 10inches.
4. Lay the fold of the fabric along the vertical edge of the cutting mat.  The selvages should be on the right side.  Cut at 20 ½ inches.  Again, this will cut off the selvages.

5.  Cut the accent strip to 3inches.  Again, lay it on its side with the fold aligned with the vertical ruler and the selvage on the right.  Cut to 20 ½ inches.

6.  ***If you are using a precut kit, this is where you begin!!!
Iron the accent strip with WRONG sides together down the length of the entire strip.

7.  Lay the 10inch border out with the RIGHT side up.

8.  Lay the body of the pillowcase ON TOP of the 10inch border with the RIGHT Side up.

9.  Lay the accent border with the RAW EDGES up on top of the body of the pillowcase.

10.  ROLL the fabric from the bottom up to the top. DO NOT roll the 10 inch border, leave flat!

11.  Fold the 10 inch border up to the top of all the edges.

***This is what your ‘hotdog’ should look like from the side.  Keep the roll away from the immediate top.
12.  Pin all of the edges together.

13.  Sew a 5/8” seam along the length of the hotdog.

14.  Pull the guts out!  Slowly work the inside roll out.

***This is what your pillowcase should look like after all the guts are out!

15.  Iron the top portion of the pillowcase.  Iron from the accent band out to the top.

16.  Fold the pillowcase in half with WRONG sides together.

17.  Pin the 2 open edges together.

18.  Sew at 1/4 inch seam ONLY along the “L”

19.  Turn the pillowcase inside out.  Iron the seams out.

20.  Sew at 1/3 or ½ inch seam along the same “L”

21.  Turn the pillowcase right side out.  Your interior seams should now be incased and there should be no raw edges anywhere on the pillowcase.  Lightly press the pillowcase seams.

This one was just a random thing I did!

This is a fandango by Kate Spain, missing 9 patch.  I'm waiting for the border fabric to arrive still!
This is a collection of fabric that Jan Patek send me.  10 fat quarts and some border fabric and you get this from Swirly Girl Designs, Perfect 10! pattern!

All the rest are at the quilter right now!
